hearts – design experiment

One aspect that can be easily analyzed in a rendering which is difficult to realize with the physical prototype is a quick field test. I tried different arrangement of the balloons in a wedding ball room to see how the balloons integrate. The effect varies with the number and position of the balloons.

In comparison the room is less welcoming and less interesting without the balloons:

Motion study

Since the balloon is not a static sculpture, its motion highly influences it esthetics. In the 3d environment I experiment with different wing positions and sequence of wing movements and discovered that a shape changing wings give the balloons character and liveliness.
